Undergrowth
As part of the
narrative: Archer ponders the plants and the impending
flood as the waters rise .
Notes on the print: One of my favourite
etchings by local Guernsey printmaker Barry Owen Jones is
of a Guernsey hedge row. I tried to draw the plants in a similar
way.
The printmaker Anthony Gross was also an influence
as it was on Barry Owen Jones etching. His spidery line often
describes wild plants encrouching on balmy summer scenes.
In trying to work out the colour
scheme I scanned in the working sketch and coloured it on
my computer. Click on the thumbnail here to see the colour
study. In 2007 I went back to this digital image and added
more colour and tone.
